Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Clearwater FL

For the 2nd consecutive year (2007 & the Inaugural race in 2006), Clearwater Florida has hosted the Ford Ironman World Championship 70.3 race. The community response? Over 3,000 volunteers participated in the 2007 event. Clearwater anticipates that even more people will want to volunteer for the 2008 event, which will be held on November 8, 2008.

What is Ironman 70.3? It is half the distance of the original Ironman Championship held in Kona, Hawaii (October 11, 2008).

Particants start (and finish) at Pier 60 in Clearwater, FL, and first, swim 1.2 miles, then bike 56 miles through Clearwater and neighboring communities, then run 13.1 miles from the beach, across Memorial Causeway Bridge, and into downtown Clearwater.

Who can enter? Only those who have qualified (in the 17 Ironman 70.3 events throughout the year).
